Most students know Aries as Mars, courage, action, aggression and competition. But Skanda Hora connects Aries with Kubera. This changes the whole meaning of Aries because Kubera is not only the lord of wealth. Kubera represents treasury, resources, capital, access, possession and the ability to arrange what is needed for a larger purpose.
There is a beautiful traditional story connected with Lord Venkateshwara of Tirupati. At the time of His marriage with Padmavati, a huge amount of wealth was required for the marriage arrangements. Lord Srinivasa took a loan from Kubera with the understanding that the debt would be repaid over time. Think about the principle hidden here. The work has to be done, the purpose exists, so the required resource is arranged. Aries does not always ask, “How much money do I already have?” Aries can ask, “What resource do I need to complete the mission?”
This gives our first predictive technique. If Aries is strongly connected with the 2nd, 6th, 8th, 10th or 11th house and Mars is capable, the native may do something much bigger than his own present financial capacity. He may use bank finance, investor money, partner’s capital, institutional support, family resources or business credit. So with a strong Aries, do not only ask how much money the person owns. Ask how much money or resource the person can mobilise. Sometimes a person with limited personal capital can control a very large project. That is Kubera intelligence working through Aries.
The second prediction is connected with responsibility. Kubera is not simply someone sitting on gold. Kubera is the guardian of treasury. So when Aries is connected with the 10th house, Sun, Mars or career lord, the person may rise when he begins handling the resources of other people. Budget, staff, machinery, clients, inventory, project money or institutional responsibility can become important. A very relatable prediction is, “Your career may rise sharply when you stop being only the person who does the work and become the person who controls the resources required to do the work.” Many people will immediately recognise this in their own life.
The third prediction is more karmic. If Kubera gives resources, those resources also create responsibility. Loan means repayment. Capital means accountability. Investment means return. So if Aries is connected with the 6th or 8th house, the person may have the ability to use debt intelligently, but if Mars, Mercury or the wealth houses are afflicted, the same person may borrow quickly without properly calculating future cash flow. Then the real problem is not getting the money. The real problem is what happens after the money comes. Can you repay it? Can you maintain the asset? Can you manage the running cost? Can you honour the agreement? This is where Kubera becomes a karmic teacher.
This is why Aries should not be understood only as an aggressive sign. Aries may actually be asking a much deeper question: “What resource must I control before I can move forward?” If Aries falls in the 2nd house, money and family wealth become important. In the 4th, property and assets. In the 7th, partnership and shared resources. In the 8th, borrowed money, inheritance or other people’s capital. In the 10th, authority over budget and resources. In the 11th, gains, networks and larger income. The house shows where Kubera’s story will begin to operate.
And there is one final lesson in the Tirupati story which students should never miss. Borrowed power always carries responsibility. A resource can help you grow, but it can also bind you if you misuse it. So the higher Aries-Kubera person learns how to acquire, arrange, deploy and repay resources with clarity. The lower expression only wants more control without understanding the responsibility attached to it. This is the kind of Jyotish we are studying in my Graha Sutra Course.
We are not stopping at “Aries means Mars” or “Taurus means Venus.” We are going deeper into the Devata behind the Rashi and using that Devata for behaviour, karma, prediction and remedies. Check your own chart and tell me in the comments: Which house contains Aries in your horoscope, and do you see this Kubera pattern operating there? I would especially like to hear from students with Aries in the 2nd, 8th, 10th or 11th house. If you want to learn Rashi, Graha and Devata at this deeper predictive level, you can join the Graha Sutra Course.
