Mercury, Meditation & A Mysterious Sadhu

After that unforgettable meeting with the mysterious sadhu in Rishikesh, I kept thinking about his words for days. Something had changed inside me. Not just about how I saw Mercury, but how I saw Jyotish itself. It was no longer just a science of planets and predictions. It was becoming a deeper path of self-discovery.

Three days later, just before he left for Badrinath, I met him again. This time, early morning. The ashram was quiet, Ganga ji was flowing gently, and the first rays of sunlight were touching the peepal tree where he usually sat.

He looked at me and said, “Vinayak ji, jyotish seekhne ke liye sirf buddhi ka hona kaafi nahi hai. Antar-moun bhi chahiye.”
I asked, “Antar-moun?”
He said, “Andar ka silence. Jab tak tumhare andar shabd ka shor hai, tum Jyotish ko sach mein samajh nahi sakte.”

He then shared something I will never forget. He said, “Meditation is not just for peace or health. It is to clear the dust on your inner mirror. Jyotish is a mirror science — it reflects the soul, the karma, the mind. But if your own mind is foggy, how will you see clearly?”

He told me a small story of his own journey. Years ago, he used to teach Chemistry in Pune University. He had all comforts — car, bungalow, respect — but no inner silence. He could explain the formulas of the outer world, but not the pain of his own heart. One day, while giving a lecture, he just stopped. Mid-sentence. Something broke inside. He walked out of the classroom and never returned. He said, “That was the day I started my real education.”

He went deep into silence. For years, he lived near Uttarkashi, doing nothing but meditation. One day, during dhyan, he had a vision of his own horoscope — not as a chart, but as living energies dancing inside his body. He could feel which planet was active, which was heavy, which was calling him towards karma, and which one towards moksha.

He said, “That day I understood — Jyotish is not outside. It is inside. If you meditate, your planets talk to you.”

That line hit me like a lightning bolt.
“If you meditate, your planets talk to you.”

He then gave me a simple but powerful practice. To sit silently every morning, and just observe which thought comes again and again. He said, “That’s your Mercury talking. Start from there. Heal that thought. Heal that echo. Then Jyotish will open its real door.”

Since that day, my practice of Jyotish changed completely. Charts became more than symbols — they became living maps of the soul. Predictions started coming not just from books, but from silence. And more than anything, I started feeling the planets, not just reading about them.

Dear students, if you have ever felt stuck in your Jyotish journey… if you know the shlokas but still feel something is missing… maybe it’s not knowledge you need. Maybe it’s silence. Maybe it’s meditation.

That sadhu is somewhere in the Himalayas now. I don’t know where. But his message is still with me — “Don’t just study Jyotish. Become it.”

And that is why I started the Jyotishmati Pragya meditation program — especially for astrologers. It is not a course. It is a journey. A way to clean your inner mirror, to hear your planets from within. Because true Jyotish is nota prediction. It is wisdom. And that wisdom only comes when the mind becomes quiet.

If you feel this story spoke to your heart, maybe it’s time to sit quietly today… and just listen to your Mercury.

Let the silence guide you.
