The Test of Ego — The Fall of a Brilliant Mind
Posted by vinayakb | All Articles, Astrology

There was one bright student named Kalanemi. He could recite all names of Nakshatras, knew degrees, dashas, everything. But he had one problem — Ahankar (ego). He thought he knew everything.

One day, Shiva asked him,
“Tell me, what will happen to the farmer born on Chaitra Purnima, when Saturn aspects his Moon?”

Kalanemi gave a long answer, quoting shlokas — but he missed one thing.

Shiva asked, “Where is the farmer’s land? Where is his nakshatra lord? Where is the karma he carries from previous life?”

Kalanemi said, “That is not in the chart.”

Shiva said,
“No. That is in the silence between two planets. It’s not what you read. It’s what you feel. You read my light, not just your books.”

Kalanemi was silent.

Shiva then turned to a quiet student named Rishi Markandeya.

“Tell me, child, what will happen?”

Markandeya closed his eyes and said,
“Prabhu, I see a barren land. The man’s Moon is in Dhanishta, Mars is behind it, Saturn in the 3rd. His land is dry, but he is proud. Saturn will teach him humility, and after age 32, his crops will come. Only after he donates iron during Saturn’s return.”

Shiva smiled. “You didn’t read a book. You read time.”

The Secret Techniques from the Story
From this story, you learn powerful secrets of Jyotish:

  1. Planet Behind is the Cause, Planet Ahead is the Result
Like Mars behind Moon = past karma of anger, impacting mind now.
  2. Read the Land = Read the Rashi of Lagna
Shiva told us — farmer’s land = native’s Lagna sign. Is it dry like Leo, wet like Cancer, windy like Aquarius? That tells real-world conditions.
  3. Nakshatra Lord is the Inner Energy
Markandeya saw Dhanishta — ruled by Mars. So even though Moon was cool, Mars was pulling the native to action.
  4. Age and Transit = Timing Karma Activation
He said Saturn will activate karma at 32. That’s because Saturn’s 1st return happens around that time.
  5. Remedies Work Only When Karma is Ready
Donating iron didn’t change fate immediately. It prepared the soul to receive. The fruit came when ego dropped.

Moral for Students: Why You Need a Guru
When Parvati asked Mahadev, “Why did you choose Markandeya, not the brilliant Kalanemi?”

Shiva said:
“Because Jyotish is not about brightness of the brain. It is about softness of the ego. You may know 27 nakshatras, but if you cannot sit quietly and listen to a chart, you’ll never hear the whisper of karma.”

Parvati smiled, “So the real nakshatra is inside the heart.”

Shiva nodded, “And the Guru is the moonlight in that dark sky.”
